BRAMPFORD SPEKE WOMEN'S INSTITUTE
We are a small institute of 18 members and are linked to a group with three other institutes – Tedburn St Mary, St Thomas and Alphington. In Devon there are 229 institutes, the largest county number in the country.
We meet every month and most months we have a speaker except in August. Topics in the past have included talks on Belly Dancing, Guide Dogs for the Blind, the Prison Service, Historic Costumes, Cookery Demonstrations, Shoes, Flower Demonstrations, Decoupage.
We end our meetings with refreshments and chat – a chance to catch up on what is happening around us.
Meetings are held on the 2nd Wednesday of each month. The January meeting is held at Chamberlains. February, March, October, November and December meetings are held in the afternoons in the Parish Hall at 2 p.m. April to September meetings in the Parish Hall at 7.30 p.m.

The Devon Federation of Women’s Institutes has its headquarters in Heavitree Road Exeter and there you can pop in for a coffee, visit the shop (well stocked with books, stationery, linens and a small selection of children’s items.)
The National Federation has its own Denman College in Oxford where a host of courses run – day schools, morning and evening classes, residential courses on subjects such as: sport, art, craft, languages, dance, jewellery, writing, cookery.
